Sensual Misgivings
I watch passerby in vain
For I cannot move
I stand outside in the rain
Shivering in the wind
Sometimes I am warm
Sometimes I am cool
But everyone wants to use me
As their own tool
I’m burned, I’m cut, I’m suffocated
Drowned and bruised and emancipated
All of these passerby sit under me to escape the sun
And tear off my limbs, for I don’t have just one
Little creatures eat me alive
Dig through my bones
Like some bee hive
But even all the things that go wrong
And the selfish creatures that don’t belong
I give them food and warmth and shelter
A smile in my heart that will never falter
For I cannot move
I stand outside in the rain
Shivering in the wind
Sometimes I am warm
Sometimes I am cool
But everyone wants to use me
As their own tool
I’m burned, I’m cut, I’m suffocated
Drowned and bruised and emancipated
All of these passerby sit under me to escape the sun
And tear off my limbs, for I don’t have just one
Little creatures eat me alive
Dig through my bones
Like some bee hive
But even all the things that go wrong
And the selfish creatures that don’t belong
I give them food and warmth and shelter
A smile in my heart that will never falter
